It was a cool evening and I was feeling tired as I parked in the supermarket car park close to the Hop Blossom Pub in Farham. The trials of the day hung heavy on my shoulders as I trudged along to Long Garden Walk. As I rounded the corner the welcoming, white painted pub came into view and already I could hear the sound of laughter and music. On entering I was transported to a place far from the busy throng of Farham and the sound of the fire engines tending a fire a few blocks away. The animated voices and the smooth music lifted my spirits and I felt my shoulders sigh as the burden of the day melted away.
The rich, jazzy tones of Jay Parrack’s voice and guitar drifted round the packed hostelry. As she began to sing “Breathe” (from her new CD) everyone seemed to recognise themselves or someone they knew in the lyrics, and at the end of the song, the crowd took a communal moment to breathe inwardly then erupted into applause. The set content slipped easily from the well known to the brand new from Jay’s forthcoming album,” Between Two Worlds” both equally at home in her effortless vocals and jazz/bluesy arrangements. Everyone left the Hop Blossom on Thursday feeling better for the experience.
“Between Two Worlds” is a must for everyone’s Christmas stocking.
