Making Contact

It is important for prospective volunteers for each task to contact the named leader in case of venue change, etc.

• For one-day work parties, please get in contact at least 3 days prior to the task.

• For weekend tasks, contact should be made at least 7 days beforehand.  Please remember to fill out a Weekend Booking Form (see details below).

• Work tasks generally start at 10.00 am and normally finish between 4 and 5 p.m depending on the time of year (and weather!).

What To Bring With You

Common sense should prevail when doing outside conservation work, but we would recommend the following as a minimum:

• Tough clothing, including waterproofs and thermal garments for winter.

• A packed lunch (unless told otherwise by the contact). In addition, the group will provide hot/cold drinks and other refreshments throughout the day.

• Sturdy footwear (steel toecaps an advantage), or Wellington boots.

• Gloves (gardening, or other similarly tough).

• A sense of humour to cope with the weather!

NB There will be First Aid kits available on site.  It is also advisable to have an up-to-date tetanus jab.

Money

One-day tasks are free to anyone who would like to go along, but there is a small charge for weekend tasks, as shown below:

• For weekend tasks organised by South Downs NTV, the normal charge is £10.00 to cover food, etc.

• The Christmas weekend task is slightly more extravagant, the charge for which is £15.00.

• Weekend tasks organised by other NTV groups can vary in cost; the South Downs contact will inform you when you say you're going.

• To book a weekend task with South Downs NTV, simply print and complete our weekend booking form and send it with the payment to The Treasurer.

You will need Adobe Reader to view the form.  If you need the Adobe Reader, download it here.
