Happy New Year to you all.
In the spirit of the times, I feel I should write a brief
review of SDNTV during "the noughties". Despite
some members leaving and new ones arriving, the
group has worked consistently throughout the
decade supporting the NT in Sussex. A big "thank
you" to all the members who have attended
workparties and especially to everyone who has
served on the committee and/or lead a workparty
over the last 10 years - we couldn't have done it
without you! Highlights include the holidays in
Snowdonia, Clumber Park, Brownsea Island and
Countisbury and the camping weekends at Nymans
and Sheffield Park. A tradition of a pre-Christmas
work party at Cissbury Ring with potatoes baked in
the fire was started (although sadly the 2009 event had to be postponed due to the snow). We
celebrated our 15th anniversary in 2003 with a party at Frog Firle and our 20th in 2008 with
a party at Sheffield Park. We have been very well supported throughout the decade by the
NT wardens and gardeners we work with, and financially by the local NT Associations - our
thanks to you all.
Looking forward, we are already well on the way to beating last year's total number of hours
worked, and if everyone can make it their New Year's resolution to come out on a work party
before the end of February, we will definitely exceed last year's performance. Trudie has
again organized a packed programme of work parties for us, including the holiday in May at
Countisbury - book early to avoid disappointment!
I am sure that at least some of us will still be here in 2019 to celebrate another decade's
worth of work. Until then, enjoy 2010 and I hope to see you out at workparty soon.
